Top 11 Cannabinoids And What They Do

Marijuana is like movies. Sometimes you just want to sit down, suspend your disbelief, and enjoy the ride. Other times, you experience a really cool effect and you just have to know how it was created. Spoiler Alert: this article is about the latter. No, we’re not going to show you how that epic space battle was created. Rather, we’re going to focus on how the cannabis that you know and love does what it does.

Cannabinoids Structure

Yes, this article is about chemistry. And yes, there are going to be some pretty big words. But before you run away screaming with horrible flashbacks from high school, rest assured that it won’t be that bad. The big words will be abbreviated, you don’t have to memorize anything if you don’t want to, and there won’t be a test at the end. So without further ado, let’s delve into the wonderful world of cannabinoids.

What Are Cannabinoids?

Put simply, cannabinoids are chemicals. More specifically, cannabinoids are chemical compounds that act on the cannabinoid receptors in the brain (CB1 and CB2). There are three distinct classes of cannabinoids:

  1. Phytocannabinoids (found in plants)
  2. Endocannabinoids (found naturally in the body)
  3. Synthetic cannabinoids (manufactured in a lab)

Whether made by plants or by your own body (bet you didn’t know your body did that), cannabinoids are the things that make marijuana the wonder drug that it is. As we’ll see, these chemical compounds are the stuff that gets you high, relieves your pain, and takes the edge off your anxiety. We’ll focus on the phytocannabinoids here since that’s what you’re getting when you light a fat doobie.

Marijuana Stocks: High Returns?

marijuana stocksSource: http://azmarijuana.com/arizona-medical-marijuana-news/shocking-growth-statistics-marijuana-industry/

Whoever said “money doesn’t grow on trees” clearly wasn’t a stoner or a stock broker. The US market for legal cannabis grew from $1.5 billion in 2013 to $2.7 billion in 2014 making it the fastest growing industry in the U.S. according to findings from a ArcView Group market research study published in 2015. The report predicts that legal marijuana sales will generate as much as $21.8 billion by 2020. As a result, cannabis is arguably the best aggressive growth opportunity the market currently has to offer!

However, the risks of investing in marijuana stocks are much higher than the potential payoffs. The marijuana composite index is very volatile primarily because cannabis is still federally illegal. The volatility is also due to “novice investors who are flooding into the stocks on the promise that they’ll find riches with the decriminalization/legalization of marijuana,” according to Simon Burns, an Openfolio representative. Some experts still suggest however that the time to buy marijuana stocks is now before the barriers to entry become too high. This post will cover everything you need to know about the high potential returns of marijuana stocks, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)’s warnings about cannabusiness scams and how to begin investing in the marijuana penny stocks.

Marijuana and Depression: Everything You Need To Know

Marijuana And Depression

Marijuana And Depression: Is Cannabis The Cure?

Perhaps you’re sick or scared of the potential side effects of using prescription pills to manage the painful symptoms of your depression and you’re ready to try something green for your blues. But what’s the deal with dope and depression? There’s certainly a lot of confusion about the relationship between the two.

You may be wondering if people who use cannabis are at a higher risk for depression? “Will I need cannabis all the time in order to feel happy if I start using it to treat my depression? Will it become a crutch? Does marijuana have negative long term effects on my brain?” You probably don’t want to deal with any potential psychological addiction to marijuana any more than you want your body becoming addicted to prescription pills. Marijuana can certainly make many people appear depressed if you don’t look at the relationship between the two closely enough.

Marijuana and Anxiety: What Are You So Anxious About?

Anxiety disorders are estimated to affect 18% of our population and cost over $42 billion a year in an attempt to alleviate symptoms and suffering. Many patients who are afflicted by anxiety prefer cannabis to prescription medications because it is an organically grown, fast acting medicine without the unwanted side effects of many prescription medications.

Cannabis is so effective at alleviating anxiety that it is hardly surprising that 44% of Americans aged 12 and older have reported having tried marijuana. Yet the American Medical Association has long denied any evidence of the medicinal value of cannabis, in spite of its popular widespread use, and for decades advocated a controversial legal synthetic THC pill which has lots of unwanted side effects, including anxiety itself! The AMA has only recently urged the DEA to end its criminalization of cannabis by reviewing its status as a class 1 controlled substance.

What’s It Like To Be A Budtender

slider_budjarshelf-980x335

“Budtender” isn’t exactly the term that many of them prefer to use for themselves. Many of them consider it a tongue and cheek title. Katie, a budtender in Colorado tells us that many budtenders prefer to be called “dispensary agents.” Out of towners seeking a recreational toke smirk at the term every time they hear it according to Mia Jane who blogs about tending buds in Colorado.

Budtenders as people are as diverse as the strains they sell but the best of them all take their work seriously and the last thing that any budtender worth their sativa…or indica would ever want for the public to assume is that they get paid to slack off and smoke all day.

Some marijuana dispensaries in California won’t allow their budtenders to smoke at all. Some won’t allow their budtenders to smoke during rush hours if they are concerned with maintaining a professional image. Other Cali dispensaries will only allow their employees to medicate with edibles or smokeless concentrates and some dispensary owners in California can and will allow their budtenders to smoke while at work budtending.

Smoking on premise at a dispensary is illegal in Colorado however. So forget about the lazy budtender stoner stereotype.
